LORI KUBAN, BA, MLIS

Lori Kuban, BA, MLIS, is a brain cancer survivor and research librarian. She was diagnosed Christmas Day, 2006, after suffering a sudden grand mal seizure. Her treatments have included brain surgery and frequent MRI brain scans, as well as complimentary approaches including meditation, visual imagery, yoga, and a vegan raw foods diet. She has a dual diagnosis of a rare, life threatening blood clotting disorder. Lori holds a bachelor's degree in psychology/counseling and French, and a master's degree in library and information science. She has worked in academic and public libraries, online as a "virtual librarian" in a fast paced chat environment, as a personal and corporate researcher, and as an instructor of bibliographic instruction. Since her diagnoses she has taken her story to the public in hopes of providing survivors and medical personnel with hope, strength, and information. Lori is a cancer and health care advocate, inspirational speaker, workshop presenter for cancer survivors and medical professionals, and a consultant in cancer health care treatment options and financial resources. She has worked as a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society, given radio and television interviews on issues surrounding cancer and access to health care, collaborated with Milwaukee Public Television on a documentary on chronic illness and health care, and has been a guest speaker for a variety of community and professional organizations. She will be teaching several classes in 2009 at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha.  Lori resides in Waukesha, Wisconsin, with her husband, two children, and two dogs, where she pursues life with passion and accepts life's challenges as they are presented, with NO FEAR!
